...to the homepage of the research project
"Hebrew Typography in German-Speaking Regions".
This project focuses on Hebrew typefaces produced and printed
in German-speaking regions from the beginning of the 16th
century until 1939.
It explores a variety of printed documents and the information they
convey. Without parallel in Europe, the project is further unique
because it marks the first time that a systematically scientific method
has been applied to the study of Hebrew typography.
In the center of our work, we have created a database in which data is
continuously assembled and updated. This database enables us to take a
new and extraordinarily comprehensive look at Hebrew printing culture
and to understand it as an integral part of German printing culture.
